The arrival of September meant it was time for us to head back to Alberta. We had such an amazing summer in B.C. and it was hard to leave our friends and family. Thankfully, Mike had some weekends off during the month and we were able to make some fun memories as a family of four.
We took a day trip to the Telus Spark Science Center in Calgary and the boys had an absolute blast. The water table was their favorite. I’m so glad we brought an extra change of clothes because they were both completely soaked!
We also spent tons of time at the park and went for a walk almost every day. I am really missing this weather now.
In October we traveled back to Kelowna for Thanksgiving. We took a special trip to the pumpkin patch with my family and the boys had a blast.
The weather was starting to change when we returned to Alberta and we had to start bundling up for the cold.
October was a big month for the boys because they both took their first steps. Ben started walking first and then Will started about a week later. It took a few weeks for them to get the hang of it, but by the end of the month they were truly on the go.
We had a great time at Halloween when the boys dressed up as Elmo and Cookie Monster. I wasn’t sure if they would like their costumes but they actually loved them. On Halloween night, the temperature was below freezing so we initially took the boys to the mall. And apparently so did every other parent in our city. We spent about 10 minutes at the mall before deciding it was too crazy and we would be better off in our apartment complex. We took the boys to our neighbours and then they were over it.
Mike was on a very busy rotation throughout most of November so I spent a week in Kelowna with the boys… are you sensing a theme here? We are really lucky that my parents have set up a nursery for the boys and helped us to fly back and forth so often. I have had a hard time being so isolated in Alberta and spending a week out of every month in Kelowna has helped the time in Alberta to fly by.
We celebrated my sister’s birthday and spent lots of time family.
We also started prepping for Christmas.
The first few weeks of December were spent back in Alberta dealing with some really cold temperatures. I don’t know if I will ever get used to the Prairie cold. We spent most of our time playing inside, but we still managed to get out for a few walks. If the temperature is above freezing then we will usually go for a walk. I find getting outside is great for the boys and for me! We just bundle up.
A week before Christmas we headed back to Kelowna for some time off with family. We had a blast prepping for Christmas, visiting a Christmas tree farm and playing in the snow.
Christmas with the boys was so much fun. They were exhausted by about 10:00am, but they rallied after a nice long nap. We are very thankful that we were able to spend Christmas with my family and that everyone was happy and healthy. Even though I am grateful for our boys everyday, the holidays are always extra special.
