Highlights of 2017 – September to December

September   The arrival of September meant it was time for us to head back to Alberta. We had such an amazing summer in B.C. and it was hard to leave our friends and family. Thankfully, Mike had some weekends off during the month and we were able to make some fun memories as a family of four. We took a day trip to the Telus Spark Science Center in Calgary and the boys had an absolute blast. The water table was their favorite. I’m so glad we brought an extra change of clothes because they were both completely soaked!…

Highlights of 2017 – May to August

May May was a big month for the boys! They both started crawling and pulling themselves up. This was very exciting, but it also meant we really needed to start baby-proofing. Two crawling babies can sure get into a lot of trouble.     May was also their first birthday! When the boys were in the NICU, I constantly thought about their first birthday. I pictured us celebrating together, the boys happy and healthy, surrounded by our friends and family. And this is exactly what it was. Their first birthday was one of the best days of my life. And…

Highlights of 2017 – January to April

January   Our year started off in the best way possible with the arrival of the boy’s cousin, Vaida.                My sister went into labour early in the morning on January 20th and called us right away. We were lucky that we were able to fly back to Kelowna in time to be there for the delivery. It was so special to be in the room when my niece was born. I don’t remember much from the day the boys were born (which is probably a good thing) and I really appreciate that my sister shared such a…

Prematurity Awareness Month

Premature babies are at an increased risk for many medical problems including respiratory distress syndrome, chronic lung disease, cardiovascular disorders, asthma and hearing and vision loss. Our beautiful twin boys were born over 14 weeks premature at 25 weeks, 6 days. They fought hard in the hospital for 87 long days before we…

Tips for Visiting the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

Visiting the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) can be an overwhelming and intimidating experience. Before I had our twins, I had never been to this area of a hospital and I had no idea what it would be like. Truthfully, it was a lot different than I expected, and I think most of our visitors felt the same way. As much as I knew it might be difficult for people to visit, it also meant the world to us to have our friends and family see our tiny miracles up close and in person. So if your friend or family…

Welcome to Just Keep Twinning

Welcome and thanks for reading! Our beautiful twin boys, William and Benjamin, were born at 25 weeks, 6 days and spent the first 87 days of their lives in the hospital. This time in the NICU was incredibly difficult for me, but I found comfort in reading other preemie stories. One of the most difficult parts of having two extremely premature babies was the overwhelming amount of unknown. It is not something that you can prepare for and everyday seemed to bring a new challenge. On one of our particularly difficult days, a neonatologist told us about a set of…
